Do you currently use a home phone?

Australia currently has 5.5million senior citizens. Some of these are not aware of the NBN as yet. Others are aware of the NBN, and believe it is not relevant to them at all.  Half of all Seniors believe their computer skills are below average, and would like to increase these skills.
However, Seniors may not realize the full extent of the NBN within the household.  The NBN is gradually replacing the telephone copper network (PSTN).  This will impact all fixed line services within the home, including landline home phones and home internet.

Retired Seniors

Seniors who have and actively use a home phone will be impacted by the NBN when it reaches their location. Seniors will need to switch over to the NBN if they are to maintain their home phone service.

It appears with many Retail Providers and the NBN Co that the internet and broadband services are heavily promoted. This can be due to the fibre technology offering benefits over the current telephone copper network.

Whilst the NBN can offer much faster internet speeds (both download and upload speeds), the humble home phone can be seen as the forgotten service. The quality of internet telephone (VoIP) is less reliable than PSTN, particularly in times during a power outage.
